Johnny Clarke

Jamaican roots-reggae legend
We are very excited to have Jamaican roots-reggae legend Johnny Clarke performing live onstage with a seven-piece band. The mid 1970’s saw Johnny Clarke rise to popularity within the Roots Reggae scene. Nominated five times for best vocalist in Jamaica, Clarke is highly respected as not only a top Reggae artist, but as a performer who could bridge the gap between Reggae music and love songs, something that many other Reggae artists would go on to replicate. During Bob Marley’s rise to fame on an international scale, Johnny Clarke was dominating his home turf in Jamaica, winning Artist of the Year in both 1975 and 1976. He was one of the first Jamaican artists to be signed to Virgin Records and his success continued throughout the 1980s and 90s, firmly establishing himself within the dancehall era. He has worked alongside artists such as Mad Professor and King Tubby, and continues to play out live on tour with his most recent track, ‘Rock with Me’, being released in 1997.
